Holidays!

I am enjoying my mid -term holidays this week. Oh , how nice, I can take my own sweet time on gardening, cooking, baking, reading, watching movies as well as sewing.

I had neglected the plants in my garden for quite some time. I feel guilty about that , but I am glad that I still remember to water them daily.:)My flowers are blooming, my herbs are green and fresh, my passion fruits are delicious.

Best of all, I do not have to hurry to work.

This week , I can immerse myself in my small garden every morning.

I feel so relaxing when doing gardening. Flowers and fresh green plants always cheer me up and put me in the right mood . Just soul satisfying to enjoy my holidays in such a way. :P

Well , I had sewn up a few Farmer's wife quilt blocks for the past few days. I would have to redo block six since the measurement turned out 6.25"x 6.25" instead of 6.5" x 6.5" . It is okay, I think I can use this wrong size block for making other stuff, may be a pot holder ? :P

At first I intended to make the blocks in numerical order, but yesterday I decided to make in random order. I think it is more fun to just pick whichever block that I feel like doing.

Above is block 19 that I made yesterday. I think the colour combination of this block is quite nice. Indeed I like it very much. What do you think ?

Today I started sewing a blouse instead of quilt blocks. WIP....., I supposed it will take me some time to finish sewing it. Why ? no hurry, I am reading a book I borrowed from my school library as well. Then ,on this coming Wednesday, I will be going up north to visit my youngest brother.

Happy Chinese New Year ---- drawstring bags and cookies

Happy Chinese New Year to all ! Today is the first day of our Chinese New Year celebration .

I am so lucky because I have nine days Chinese New Year holidays started from 26^th of last month. Besides being busy with my work , I was busy preparing for this festival in the past few weeks too. Spring cleaning, baking , sewing and………., phew ! I am glad all were done and now I am enjoying my New Year celebration.

Of all the traditional Chinese festivals, the Chinese New Year is the most important and grant celebration for the Chinese. It is the time for family reunions, and for visiting friends and relatives. This festival stressed the importance of family ties.

Yesterday we attended a Chinese New year's Eve dinner gathering in my brother's house . Even though my parents had passed away more than twenty years, members of my family would still gather at the old house where we grown up . Every year, we sisters and brothers together with our families gather there for the important family meal on the evening of the New year's Eve. It was among the most important family occasions of the year.

This year I was able to make some drawstring bags as little gifts for girls.

I used patchwork style cotton fabric for making these bags. The inner lining fabric is satin. Since all the bags are made from the same fabric, so I did some embroidery work to make sure each girl would be able to identify her own bag. You know, so many of them gathering together in our old house, playing, talking and giggling around, their belongings will definitely misplace and mix up.

Red packet with money is put inside each of the bags and given to my lovely nieces yesterday . They were happy to get their bags respectively.

For your information, red packets are actually small red envelopes, printed with greeting and best wishes wording. During Chinese New Year, red packets will be given to children, unmarried adults or elders with money inside them.

For this celebration, I managed to bake more than 40 tubs of cookies .These cookies are prepared for our relatives. I only have time to make five different types, i.e. pineapple nastar rolls, cashew nut cookies, chocolate almond cookies, butter cookies and semperit butter fingers. Besides sewing, I actually enjoy cooking and baking too. How I wish I could have more time to bake more variety of cookies .

Well. I have to stop here because my hubby is waiting for me. We are going to visit his uncle who stay nearby.

I am back

I was too busy with my work for the past few months and could not spare time on blogging.

Heavy workload sometimes really drives me crazy. Luckily my passion for sewing always helps to erase the stress and tension that exist in my life. I found myself living in peace and content as long as I can sit down to sew , may it be just a few stiches.

I did not come out with much stuffs for the past few months, but every small project or stuff make me smile.

Happy because I picked up 15 passion fruits from my garden this morning.
Happy because I bought some beautiful fabric yesterday.
Happy because I have time to clean up my messy house.
Happy because I see flowers blooming in my garden.
Happy because I can have an afternoon nap.
Happy because I have time to watch movies.
Happy because I have time to cook for my hubby.
Happy because I have time to make bread and cakes.
Happy because I have time to read my favourite books.
But most of all, happy because I have time to sew!!!
Happy because I have two weeks holidays !!!

Keep on sewing

I could not wait until June holidays to start sewing new clothes for myself. I could not wait that long ! I am going to manage my time wisely. I will try to squeeze out as much spare time as possible, so that I will be able to do bit by bit, and finish making my blouse within a few days or in one week time.

Do not be surprised that sometimes I finished sewing a blouse or a dress within one day . Ha ! ha ! This means occasionally I am too immersed in sewing and just leave cooking and housework aside. I can sew in the morning since I started working at noon. My work ended at 6.40 p.m. I can continue sewing at night.

Well, I am lucky because there are several healthy vegetarian restaurants nearby. If I am busy sewing and did not cook, simple food they served with reasonable price always make me and my hubby satisfied.

So I think I do not have to delay my sewing projects . Right now I should go to bed. I will wake up early tomorrow, clean up my house and then sit down to sew. Goodnight ! Till I finish my stuff and post again ! Do wish me HAPPY SEWING ! See you !
