Four pairs of shorts for my little niece

My little niece came to my house last weekend. She insisted to take a picture in front of the framed cross stitched Japanese lady hanging on the wall in my living room. She likes the cross stitch very much because it was made by her mum before she was born.

She told me she likes the broad shorts I made for her cousin brother. She asked me to make one for her too. At home this girl likes to wear T-shirt and shorts.

After she knew that I am willing to sew one for her, she was happy and said : “ You know, I have grown up and some of my shorts are too small to fit already ! Do you mind to make more than one for me ? “

I laughed and answered : “ No problem ! How many pairs do you want ? Five ? "

She raised her three little fingers and answered : “ THREE will be enough !”

On Tuesday night, I finished sewing four ( instead of three )pairs of broad shorts for her.

I drafted the paper pattern with seam allowance. I just laid the paper pattern on the fabric and cut out without tracing. Quick, easy and fun to sew! Less than three hours, I completed four shorts with elasticated waist .

My little niece cycled  to my house to get her shorts this evening . She likes the shorts I made for her.  I took some pictures of her with the shorts on. She is a real cutie, sweet and mischievious !

Red cotton dress with embroidered roses

When I entered one of the fabric stores in my hometown and saw this fabric, I was really excited . This embroidered cotton fabric with roses on it is so beautiful ! There are a few colours , what colour should I buy ? Blue? purple? yellow ? orange ? In the end, I bought this red one because I like to see kids wearing bright colours.

When cutting the fabric ,I adjusted carefully so that one of the pretty rose fell just below the front neck line. The result turned out great .My little niece looks pretty and sweet with it on.

Colourful floral dress

This is another Chinese New Year dress that I made for a niece of mine a few years back. She is now a tall teenager girl and the dress is passed to her younger sister. The fabric used is cotton bought from a local fabric store. The plain red cotton fabric is scrap of fabric given by my hubby’s aunty. I cut some flower patterns from the colourful fabric and machine appliqued them on the plain red fabric.

Purple flower dress

I made this dress for my 10 years old niece a few years ago. Actually I made four similar dresses for four of them, age 7 to 11. The other three have been given away because my nieces have grown up and cannot fit already. This is the only one that my sister keep for her youngest daughter.

When I saw this 100 % cotton fabric in the textile shop, immediately I made up my mind what to do with them. Without hesitation, I bought several metres to sew the Chinese New Year dresses for my little nieces. I love this fabric, the colour combination and the floral designs are so beautiful !
